| LANDSCAPES |
The Charente offers a wide variety of landscapes, adjoining the Poitou region to the North, the Limousin and Périgord to the East, Aquitaine to the South, and Saintonge to the West.

Made up primarily of plains, the East of the department is an area of low plateaux, the highest point of which is the “Massif de l’arbre” at a height of 315 metres.

To the Northeast of the Charente, the area around Confolens is of granite, covered with oaks, chestnuts and heather. This region, situated near the Limousin, is known as the “cold land” and is used for raising stock. |
